About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 16 ounces farmers cheese or cottage cheese
  • 1 cup finely chopped almonds

  1. In a large bowl, combine the farmers cheese (or cottage cheese), finely chopped almonds, and oatmeal.
  2. Mix the ingredients until well blended and a dough-like consistency is achieved.
  3. Take small portions of the mixture and roll them into balls between your hands.
  4. In a separate bowl, pour some sesame seeds.
  5. Roll each cheese ball in the sesame seeds until fully coated.
  6. Place the coated balls on a plate or tray, and refrigerate them for at least 30 minutes to firm up.

Variations of the Recipe:

  1. Sweet Cottage Cheese Balls: Add a touch of sweetness to the mixture by incorporating some honey or maple syrup. You can also mix in dried fruits like chopped dates, raisins, or cranberries for a delightful sweet and nutty flavor.
  2. Savory Herb and Spice Balls: Enhance the savory aspect by adding chopped fresh herbs like parsley, dill, or basil to the mixture. Sprinkle in some garlic powder, onion powder, or your favorite spices for an extra kick of flavor.
  3. Chocolate-Coated Cheese Balls: Dip the chilled cheese balls into melted dark chocolate or melted chocolate chips. Allow the chocolate to set before serving for a decadent and indulgent treat.
  4. Fruity Delight Balls: Mix in some finely diced fresh fruits like strawberries, blueberries, or peaches to add a burst of fruity goodness to the cheese balls. These fruity variations can be rolled in crushed nuts or shredded coconut for added texture.
  5. Nutty Power Balls: Replace the almonds with a different type of nut, such as walnuts, pecans, or hazelnuts. You can also add a variety of seeds like chia seeds, flaxseeds, or sunflower seeds for added nutritional value.
  6. Spicy Jalapeno Cheese Balls: For a spicy twist, finely chop some jalapeno peppers and mix them into the cheese ball mixture. Roll the balls in crushed tortilla chips or breadcrumbs for added crunch.
  7. Lemon Poppy Seed Balls: Add a refreshing citrusy flavor by incorporating lemon zest and poppy seeds into the mixture. These cheese balls can be rolled in powdered sugar or more poppy seeds for an attractive appearance.
  8. Coconut Lime Delights: Mix in some grated coconut and lime zest for a tropical twist. Roll the balls in toasted coconut flakes for an exotic and tasty treat.
  9. Nut Butter Filled Balls: Create a surprise filling by making a dent in each cheese ball and filling it with a dollop of almond butter, peanut butter, or any nut butter of your choice.
  10. Cheddar and Bacon Bites: Replace the farmers or cottage cheese with shredded cheddar cheese and add crumbled cooked bacon to the mixture. These savory bites will be a hit at parties or gatherings.
  11. Greek Inspired Cheese Balls: Mix in some crumbled feta cheese, chopped Kalamata olives, and diced cucumbers for a Mediterranean-inspired flavor. Roll the balls in dried oregano or za’atar for an authentic touch.
