INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola (do not use diet or flavored variations)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

 

FOR THE COCA-COLA GLAZE:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup Coca-Cola
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Chopped nuts or sprinkles for garnish

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and granulated sugar.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the cocoa powder and Coca-Cola, stirring until smooth.
  4. Pour the butter-cocoa mixture into the flour-sugar mixture and stir until well combined.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, lightly beaten eggs, baking soda, and vanilla extract. Add this mixture to the batter and mix until smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it out evenly.
  7. Bake for approximately 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the Coca-Cola glaze. In a saucepan, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the Coca-Cola and cocoa powder, stirring until smooth.
  9. Remove the saucepan from heat and gradually whisk in the powdered sugar until the glaze is smooth and reaches your desired consistency. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  10. Once the cake is baked, remove it from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  11. Pour the Coca-Cola glaze over the warm cake, spreading it out evenly with a spatula.
  12. Optional: Garnish the cake with chopped nuts or sprinkles while the glaze is still slightly wet.
  13. Allow the cake to cool completely before serving, allowing the glaze to set.
