Crescent rolls are a popular type of bread in the United States, often served with holiday dinners or as a base for sandwiches. Soft crescent rolls are light, fluffy, and slightly sweet. The texture of a soft crescent roll is what sets it apart from other breads. The dough is enriched with butter, eggs, and sugar, which makes the rolls tender and slightly sweet. They are also less dense than a traditional dinner roll, which gives them a light and fluffy texture.
Here’s a recipe for soft Crescent Rolls:

Serving size and preparation time:

This recipe makes about 12-16 crescent rolls, depending on the size you make them.
The preparation time is approximately 2 hours, which includes rising time for the dough.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (or 1 packet)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (110-115°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 2 large eggs
  • Non-stick cooking spray
  • 1 egg, beaten with 1 tbsp water (for egg wash)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm milk, melted butter, warm water, and eggs.
  3. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size.
  6. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  7. On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a large circle, about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter to cut the dough into triangles.
  9. Roll up each triangle starting from the wide end, and shape it into a crescent roll.
  10. Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover with a clean towel, and let them rise for an additional 15-20 minutes.
  11. Brush the rolls with the egg wash.
  12. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
  13. Remove from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving.
