Holiday Almonds

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

These sweet and flavorful nuts are downright addictive! They’re simple to make, and I love serving them at parties or as a quick snack.

Holiday Almonds are a delightful and festive treat that combines the flavors of warm spices, sweetness, and a hint of curry powder for a unique twist. These roasted almonds make the perfect snack during the holiday season or any time you crave a crunchy and flavorful treat. The combination of brown sugar, apple pie spice (or pumpkin pie spice), curry powder, and salt creates a balance of sweet, savory, and slightly spicy flavors that will surely delight your taste buds.

Roasted almonds have been enjoyed for centuries and are popular in many cultures around the world. Almonds themselves have a rich history and have been cultivated for thousands of years, with their origins dating back to ancient civilizations in the Middle East. The process of roasting almonds enhances their natural nutty flavor and adds a satisfying crunch.

The recipe for Holiday Almonds takes the traditional roasted almonds and elevates them with a blend of holiday-inspired spices. The addition of apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice, along with a touch of curry powder, creates a unique and aromatic flavor profile. These spiced almonds have become a beloved treat during the holiday season, adding warmth and a touch of sweetness to festive gatherings and celebrations.

PREP/TOTAL TIME: 30 MIN.

MAKES: 2 CUPS

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon egg white
  • 2 cups blanched almonds

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice, curry powder, and salt. Set this spice mixture aside.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the egg white until it becomes foamy. Add the blanched almonds to the bowl and toss them gently to ensure they are evenly coated with the egg white.
  3. Now, add the prepared spice mixture to the bowl with the almonds. Toss the almonds once again, making sure they are thoroughly coated with the spice mixture.
  4. Spread the coated almonds in a single layer on a greased, foil-lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake the almonds at 325°F (165°C) for 20-25 minutes or until they become lightly browned, stirring them occasionally during the baking process to ensure even cooking.
  6. Once the almonds are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet. As they cool, they will become crispy and develop a delightful texture.
  7. Once the almonds have cooled, transfer them to an airtight container for storage. They can be stored at room temperature for several days, allowing you to enjoy them whenever you desire a tasty and satisfying snack.

These Holiday Almonds are perfect for serving at holiday parties, as edible gifts, or simply for indulging in a delicious and crunchy treat during the festive season. Enjoy the delightful blend of spices and the satisfying crunch of these spiced roasted almonds!
