About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

This casserole is perfect for special occasions or holiday dinners when you want to impress your guests with a decadent and flavorful dish. The homemade cream sauce adds a rich and creamy texture to the dish, while the fresh green beans and crispy topping provide a nice contrast in texture.
Here is a recipe for gourmet green bean casserole:

Serving size and preparation time:

This gourmet green bean casserole recipe serves 8 people and has a preparation time of approximately 45 minutes.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into bite-size pieces
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  2. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the green beans and cook until just tender, about 5-6 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook until softened, about 5-6 minutes. Add the minced garlic, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, and cayenne pepper, and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle the flour over the onion mixture and stir to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly.
  5. Slowly whisk in the whole milk and heavy cream until the mixture is smooth. Cook over medium heat until the sauce has thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat and stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and well combined.
  7. Add the cooked green beans to the skillet and stir to coat with the sauce.
  8. Transfer the green bean mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  9. In a small bowl, mix together the panko breadcrumbs and chopped parsley. Sprinkle the breadcrumb mixture evenly over the top of the green bean casserole.
  10. Bake the casserole for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and crispy.
  11. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
