Build Your Own Bloody Mary Bar, with Mix-ins and Garnishes

This drink’s alchemy of vodka and tomato juice on the rocks has come to be code for relaxed, gab-filled meals. Bloody Marys are the perfect combination of savory, spicy, and tangy, and are one of those few drinks that really can be enjoyed in the morning.

Serves 4

INGREDIENTS

  • 1½ cups tomato juice
  • ¾ cup vodka
  • Juice of 1 lime (2 to 3 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • ⅛ teaspoon Tabasco
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground pepper to taste
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wedges, for garnish
  • Celery stalks, for garnish (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large pitcher, combine all ingredients except ice and garnishes.
  2. Fill glasses (preferably highball, but any tall glass will do) with ice, then pour in the Bloody Marys.
  3. Garnish with lime wedges and/or celery stalks and serve.

TIP:

  • If you’re entertaining a group, set up a Bloody Mary bar and let your guests customize their own drinks instead of mixing them yourself. Place individual glasses on the bar next to a big bowl filled with ice. Present the tomato juice in a glass pitcher. Set a bottle of vodka next to it (or pour the vodka into a pitcher), and place a shot glass nearby so guests can measure their own quantity. Serve the Worcestershire, horseradish, Tabasco,
salt, and pepper in small bowls with spoons, or line up all the ingredients in the containers they came in. Arrange the lime wedges and celery stalks in separate bowls.
