Alabama White BBQ Sauce traces its roots back to the 1920s in Northern Alabama, specifically in the city of Decatur. The sauce was popularized by Big Bob Gibson, the founder of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q, a renowned barbecue joint that still operates today.

Traditionally used as a basting sauce for smoked chickens, Alabama White BBQ Sauce has gained widespread popularity and expanded its use beyond poultry. Today, it is used as a dipping sauce, marinade, or condiment for a variety of grilled meats, sandwiches, and even salads.

The key component of Alabama White BBQ Sauce is mayonnaise, which provides a creamy and rich base. INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Salt to taste

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the mayonnaise, white vinegar, horseradish, fresh lemon juice, sugar, black pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until well combined and the sauce is smooth.
  3. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasonings according to your preference. Add more vinegar for extra tanginess, more horseradish for heat, or adjust the salt and other spices to suit your taste.
  4. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the Alabama White BBQ Sauce for at least 1 hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together and intensify.
  5. Remove the sauce from the refrigerator and stir it well before using.
  6. Serve the Alabama White BBQ Sauce as a dipping sauce for grilled chicken, pork, or beef. It can also be brushed onto meats during the last few minutes of grilling for a flavorful glaze.
