  • 1/2 teaspoonful lemon extract
  • Flour

    • In a mixing bowl, cream together 2 cupfuls of sugar and 1 cupful of Crisco until well combined.
  2. Incorporating Eggs:
    • Add 2 eggs that are well beaten to the sugar and Crisco mixture. Mix until the eggs are fully incorporated.
  3. Combining Sour Milk and Baking Soda:
    • Mix 1/2 cupful of thick sour milk with 1 teaspoonful of baking soda. This mixture will create a chemical reaction that helps the cookies rise.
  4. Adding Flavors:
    • Stir in 1 teaspoonful of vanilla extract and 1/2 teaspoonful of lemon extract. These extracts infuse the cookies with delightful flavors.
  5. Gradually Adding Flour:
    • Begin adding flour gradually to the mixture, starting with about 5 cupfuls. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms.
  6. Rolling and Cutting Dough:
    • On a floured surface, roll the cookie dough very thin.
    • Use a cookie cutter to cut out individual cookies from the rolled-out dough.
  7. Preparing Baking Tins:
    • Grease baking tins with Crisco to prevent the cookies from sticking.
  8. Baking Process:
    • Preheat your oven to a moderately hot temperature.
    • Place the cut-out cookies on the Criscoed tins and bake them in the preheated oven for approximately five minutes.
  9. Preserving Freshness:
    • To keep the cookies crisp and fresh, once they are cold, store them in covered tin cans in a cool place.
  10. Yield:
    • The recipe yields approximately ninety cookies, making it ideal for sharing with family, friends, and guests.
