The Golden Cupcake

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

The Golden Cupcake is a delightful and decadent treat that combines the classic flavors of a yellow cake with the irresistible goodness of Golden Oreos. This unique cupcake is a sweet and indulgent delight that will captivate your taste buds with every bite. Topped with a creamy and tangy cream cheese frosting, these cupcakes are sure to become a favorite among dessert enthusiasts.

The Golden Cupcake draws inspiration from the beloved classic yellow cake, a traditional American dessert dating back to the early 20th century. Yellow cake is known for its rich, buttery flavor and soft, moist texture. Over time, various recipes have emerged to enhance the taste and presentation of the yellow cake, with bakers experimenting with different flavors and mix-ins.

Golden Oreos, a variation of the classic Oreo cookie, were introduced by Nabisco in the late 1990s. These cookies feature a vanilla-flavored cookie with a golden hue and a creamy filling, providing a delightful twist on the iconic chocolate Oreo.

The combination of the yellow cake and Golden Oreos creates a harmonious fusion of flavors and textures, resulting in the delectable Golden Cupcake. The cream cheese frosting perfectly complements the cake, adding a creamy, tangy contrast that elevates the overall taste.

INGREDIENTS

Yellow Cake:

  • 20-24 Golden Oreos
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/3 C. oil
  • 3/4 C. sour cream
  • 1/2 C. milk or buttermilk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 oz. cream cheese
  • 1/2 C. butter, softened
  • 2 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 Tbsp. milk
  • 3-4 C. powdered sugar
  • Extra Golden Oreos for decoration

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and line cupcake pans with liners.
  2. Place a Golden Oreo at the bottom of each cupcake liner, creating a delightful surprise at the cupcake’s base.
  3. In a large bowl, sift the yellow cake mix to remove any lumps.
  4. Add the eggs, oil, sour cream, milk (or buttermilk), and vanilla extract to the bowl, and stir until the batter becomes smooth and well-combined.
  5. Fill each cupcake liner (over the Golden Oreos) until they are about 3/4 full with the cake batter.
  6. Bake the cupcakes in the preheated oven for approximately 15-20 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean. Depending on your oven, consider baking on a higher rack to avoid burning the Oreos at the bottom, as some ovens can get extra hot from below.
  7. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely.

Cream Cheese Frosting:

  1. In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter until the mixture becomes smooth.
  2. Add the vanilla extract, milk, and 2 cups of powdered sugar to the bowl, and beat again until the ingredients are thoroughly incorporated.
  3. Gradually add more powdered sugar to the bowl, continuing to beat the mixture until you reach your desired frosting consistency.
  4. Pipe the cream cheese frosting onto the cooled cupcakes, creating a delightful swirl or design on top.
  5. Complete the presentation by topping each cupcake with an extra Golden Oreo, adding a lovely finishing touch to these delectable treats.
  6. Enjoy these Golden Cupcakes as a delightful and eye-catching addition to your dessert table or a special treat for gatherings and celebrations. With their unique blend of flavors and enticing presentation, these cupcakes are sure to impress and satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth.
