Snickers cookies are a mouthwatering and decadent dessert inspired by the popular Snickers candy bar. The Snickers candy bar, first introduced in 1930 by the Mars company, quickly became one of the most beloved and iconic chocolate bars worldwide. Named after one of the Mars family’s favorite horses, Snickers bars feature layers of nougat, caramel, roasted peanuts, and milk chocolate. The combination of these ingredients created a flavor explosion that captured the hearts of many chocolate lovers.

The idea of creating Snickers cookies likely stemmed from the popularity of the candy bar itself. Bakers and dessert enthusiasts have a knack for incorporating beloved flavors into various desserts, and Snickers-inspired cookies were no exception. The marriage of the Snickers’ elements with a shortbread base resulted in a delectable treat that pays homage to the classic candy bar in a new and exciting way.

 

 

INGREDIENTS

SHORTBREAD:

  • ⅔ cup butter, softened
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

 

CARAMEL:

  • 1 (11-ounce) bag of caramels
  • ¼ cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup dry-roasted (plain) peanuts

 

CHOCOLATE:

  • 12 ounces good quality milk chocolate chips

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. PREHEAT OVEN & PREPARE BAKING DISH
    • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
    • Line a 9×9 inch baking dish with parchment paper, ensuring it hangs over the edges for easy removal. Set it aside.
  2. CREAM BUTTER AND SUGAR
    • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, flour, salt, and vanilla extract until the mixture becomes crumbly and fully incorporated.
  3. PRESS SHORTBREAD MIXTURE
    • Press the shortbread mixture firmly into the bottom of the lined baking dish, creating an even layer.
    • Bake the shortbread in the preheated oven for approximately 20 minutes or until it turns slightly golden.
  4. PREPARE CARAMEL & PEANUT LAYER
    • While the shortbread is baking, prepare the caramel layer by combining the caramels and heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl.
    • Microwave the mixture for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds, until the caramels melt and combine with the cream.
    • Stir in the dry-roasted peanuts and pour the caramel-peanut mixture evenly over the baked shortbread. Use a spoon to distribute the caramel and peanuts evenly.
  5. ALLOW TO COOL
    • Allow the cookie layers to cool for at least 10 minutes.
  6. MELT CHOCOLATE
    • In a separate microwave-safe bowl, heat the milk chocolate chips in increments of 30 seconds, stirring each time, until fully melted.
  7. COAT WITH CHOCOLATE
    • Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer, spreading it evenly with a spatula or the back of a spoon.
  8. COOL AND HARDEN
    • Allow the chocolate to cool and harden completely before serving, which usually takes about 2 hours.
    • Once the chocolate has set, use the parchment paper to lift the entire dessert out of the baking dish, then cut it into squares.
