Pomegranate Orange Granita

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

The sweetness of orange mellows the bitterness of the pomegranate juice in
this refreshing granita.

 YIELD: 1 QUART

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups pomegranate juice
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • ⅔ cup sugar

PREPARATION

  1. Combine the juices and sugar in a saucepan over medium-low heat in a saucepan until sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat.
  2. Refrigerate until chilled.
  3. Pour into a covered container and place in the freezer for 1 hour.
  4. Remove from freezer, and stir the frozen crystals into the center of the container with a fork.
  5. Return the container to the freezer, and repeat the process every 30–45 minutes, stirring carefully each time, until you have a fully frozen container of crystallized granita.

NOTE: Quite a Fruit. More scientific research is being done on the pomegranate than practically any other fruit, due to its incredible health benefits. Studies show the pomegranate has been found to reduce bad cholesterol, reduce heart disease, protect against some cancers, and aid in oral health.
