New York strip steak is nice, tender and rich in beefy flavor. A strip steak comes from short loin of a cow, not in heavy use so it is very tender. This is a perfect recipe for a perfect strip steak. To get a strip steak just like the one in steakhouse, sear the steak in hot skillet then put it in the oven. You will get perfect brown exterior with crunch and super juicy interior. The secret behind this perfect juicy steak is the two step cooking process; sear then finish in the oven and tada! It’s done. For this steak you need only few simple ingredients. Here’s an overview of this recipe. You will be needing I inch thick New York strip steak. Salt and black pepper for seasoning. Butter for the finishing enhanced flavor. Let it sit for about 20 minutes at room temperature before seasoning it. It is recommended to use a heavy pan such as cast iron for a nice crust. Choose oil for seasoning skillet with high smoke point such as canola oil, safflower oil, corn oil and peanut oil. Insert thermometer in the steak and as it reads 135F it means steak is medium rare. Likewise, 145F is for medium and 150F for medium well. Serve the steak with your favorite side like mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables or just a simple salad.

Ingredients:
- 8 ounces New York strip steak
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- Kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 500F.
- Sprinkle both sides of steak with salt and pepper.
- Season a cast iron skillet and heat it over high-heat until smoking hot which with take around 5-7 minutes. Place the steak on a smoking hot seasoned cast iron skillet. use canola oil in skillet. Cook for 2 minutes on each side so you get a nice crust. When nice and crusty place it in hot oven and roast to medium rare for 4 minutes. If you like it medium then roast for 5 minutes.

Note: It is best to serve the steak when cooked freshly. If you end up having leftovers you can store in airtight container for about 3 days in refrigerator. You can also use the leftover to make a totally different dish like steak salad. For that simply slice up the leftover and use for a salad or cut thin slices and make a sandwich out of it. You can reheat over stovetop or in microwave.
