  • 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup fat-free milk
  • ½ cup maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

 

INSTRUCTIONS 

  1. Preparing the batter: In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Mix them together until well combined.
  2. Whisking the wet ingredients: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, fat-free milk, maple syrup, and melted butter until the mixture is well blended.
  3. Combining the wet and dry ingredients: Pour the wet ingredient mixture into the dry ingredients bowl. Stir the mixture together until the ingredients are just moistened. Avoid overmixing to maintain a tender texture.
  4. Baking the cornbread: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a 9-inch square baking pan with cooking spray. Transfer the cornbread batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  5. Baking time: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. The top of the cornbread should turn golden brown.
