The dish consists of grilled meat (typically chicken, beef, pork, or lamb) that is sliced and served inside a warm pita bread with various toppings such as tzatziki sauce, diced tomato, red onion, and fresh parsley leaves. The combination of flavors and textures make for a delicious and satisfying meal that appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds. Over the years, Greek Chicken Gyros have become increasingly popular globally and can now be found in many restaurants and food trucks.

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

  3. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 minutes to marinate.

  5. Grill the chicken strips for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until fully cooked.
  6. Warm the pita bread on the grill or in a warm oven.
  7. To assemble the gyros, spread tzatziki sauce on each pita bread.
  8. Add the cooked chicken strips, diced tomato, diced red onion, and fresh parsley leaves.
  9. Fold the pita over the filling and serve immediately.
