Frozen Bananas

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Why pay $3 or more each when you can make a half-dozen for less? Kids will love these “monkey tails,” and you’ll love how easy they are to prepare.

Fun Treats in Small Packages

For a fun twist, make smaller, decorated versions of these banana treats. Cut the bananas into 2 lengths, insert stick, dip about three quarters into the melted chocolate, and then add sprinkles for a bit of color!

SERVES 6

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 large or 6 small just-ripe bananas
  • 12 ounces chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon shortening

PREPARATION

  1. Peel the bananas. If using large bananas, cut them in half. Insert craft sticks into each banana or half. Refrigerate while preparing the chocolate.
  2. Prepare a small baking sheet with parchment paper. The pan must fit easily into your freezer.
  3. Melt the chocolate and shortening in the microwave, heating in 30-second increments. Stir after each heating. When smooth and liquid in texture, dip the prepared bananas into the chocolate, then place them on the parchment-lined pan.
  4. Freeze the bananas for 1–2 hours, then wrap them in plastic or carefully place them all in a large zipper-top freezer bag.
  5. Enjoy your homemade chocolate-covered frozen bananas!
