COOKING FOR BABY PEARS

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Pears cook up quickly, pair well with other fruits, and yield a lot of juice, just like apples. Use any variety of ripe pear for this recipe.

MAKES ABOUT 4 CUPS

INGREDIENTS

  • 6 medium pears, peeled, cored, and quartered
  • 1 cup filtered water or juice

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Combine the pears and water in the pressure cooker.
  2. Lock the lid in place and cook at high pressure for 4 minutes.
  3. Quick release the pressure and remove the lid, tilting the pot away from you to avoid the escaping steam.
  4. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fruit to a food processor and process the pears, adding some of the cooking liquid to the mixture to thin it.
  5. Refrigerate the pears for up to 2 days; you can freeze them for up to 1 month.

GREAT COMBINATIONS:

  • Combine 4 medium pears, peeled, cored, and quartered; 1 cup of pitted cherries; and 1 cup of juice or water. Cook at high pressure for 6 minutes. Release the pressure naturally and strain the fruit.
  • Combine 3 medium pears, peeled, cored, and quartered; 3 medium Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored, and quartered; and 1 cup of juice or water. Cook at high pressure for 4 minutes. Quick release the pressure and strain the fruit.
