  • 1 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 cup water
  • ¼ cup baking cocoa
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • ½ cup sour cream

 

FOR FROSTING:

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 3¾ cups confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup baking cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 5 to 6 tablespoons milk

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large saucepan, bring the butter, water, and cocoa to a boil. Immediately remove from the heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir the dry mixture into the butter mixture.
  3. In another bowl, combine the lightly beaten eggs and sour cream. Stir this mixture into the butter mixture until well blended.
  4. Pour the batter into a greased 15x10x1-inch baking pan.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 18-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool the cake on a wire rack.
  6. To prepare the frosting, cream the softened butter and confectioners’ sugar in a large bowl.
  7. Add the baking cocoa, vanilla extract, and enough milk to achieve the desired consistency. Mix until smooth and creamy.
  8. Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled cake.
