I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Chocolate chip cookies are a beloved classic treat that have been enjoyed for generations. The first chocolate chip cookie was said to be invented in 1938 by Ruth Wakefield, who owned the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. She was experimenting with a recipe for butter drop do cookies when she decided to add chopped up pieces of a Nestle chocolate bar. The result was a new kind of cookie that quickly became popular with her customers.
Here is a classic recipe for homemade chocolate chip cookies:

Serving size and preparation time:

This recipe yields about 2 dozen (24) medium-sized chocolate chip cookies. The preparation time is approximately 15 minutes, and the baking time is around 10-12 minutes per batch. Overall, the cookies should be ready to serve in around 30-40 minutes, depending on the size of your oven and baking sheet.

  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients in 3-4 batches, mixing until everything is just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips with a spatula.
  7. Drop the dough by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them at least 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes, or until lightly golden brown around the edges.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5-10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
