Chocolate Buttercream Brownies Cake

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Chocolate buttercream brownies cake is a delightful and indulgent dessert that combines the rich flavors of chocolate brownies with a smooth and creamy chocolate buttercream frosting. This dessert is a treat for chocolate lovers and is often enjoyed on special occasions, birthdays, or as a comforting sweet indulgence.

The history of chocolate brownies dates back to the late 19th century when Bertha Palmer, a socialite and philanthropist, requested a special dessert for the 1893 Chicago World’s Columbian Exposition. She wanted a dessert that was smaller than a cake but still delicious and suitable for a boxed lunch. The result was the invention of the first chocolate brownie, which was a cross between a cake and a cookie.

Over the years, brownie recipes evolved and were adapted to various tastes and preferences. The addition of chocolate drink mix and a luscious chocolate buttercream frosting brings a unique twist to the traditional brownie, creating an even more decadent and irresistible dessert.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup chocolate chocolate drink mix
  • ¾ cup butter, softened
  • 1½ cup flour
  • 2½ cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • ½ American Heritage chocolate bar (grated)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Frosting:

  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1¼ cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large bowl, combine the chocolate chocolate drink mix, flour, sugar, and salt. Mix the dry ingredients until they are well combined.
  2. Add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla to the dry ingredient mixture. Beat the mixture on LOW speed until all the ingredients are well combined, forming a smooth batter.
  3. Fold in the grated American Heritage chocolate bar (or any other chocolate bar of your choice) into the batter. Make sure the chocolate is evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  4. Spread the prepared brownie batter into a greased 9×13-inch baking pan, ensuring it is spread out evenly.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the brownies for 30-35 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center of the brownies; if it comes out with a few moist crumbs, the brownies are done. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan.
  6. While the brownies are cooling, prepare the chocolate buttercream frosting. In a separate bowl, mix the softened butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined.
  7. Slowly add the powdered sugar and milk to the frosting mixture, beating until a smooth and creamy frosting consistency is achieved.
  8. Once the brownies have cooled, spread the chocolate buttercream frosting over the top of the brownies in an even layer.
  9. As a final touch, sprinkle mini M&Ms over the frosting to add color and extra chocolatey goodness.
  10. Slice the brownies into squares and serve them as a delectable treat for family and friends to enjoy!

These chocolate buttercream brownies are sure to be a hit at any gathering or as a delightful dessert to satisfy your chocolate cravings. Enjoy the rich, fudgy brownies topped with a velvety smooth chocolate buttercream frosting, making each bite a moment of pure bliss.
