Broccoli Apple Smoothie

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 Apple
  • 1 cup Broccoli
  • 1 tbsp. Cilantro
  • 1 Celery stalk
  • 1 cup crushed ice
  • 1 tbsp. crushed Seaweed

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Wash and prepare the ingredients: Wash the apple, broccoli, cilantro, and celery thoroughly under running water. Peel and core the apple, then chop it into small pieces. Cut the broccoli into florets and trim the celery stalk.
  2. Crush the seaweed: Take the dried seaweed and crush it into small pieces using a mortar and pestle or a food processor. You can use various types of seaweed like nori, wakame, or kelp, depending on your preference.
  3. Assemble the smoothie: In a blender, combine the chopped apple, broccoli florets, cilantro, celery stalk, and crushed seaweed. Add the crushed ice to the blender.
  4. Blend the ingredients: Secure the lid on the blender and blend the ingredients until smooth. If the mixture is too thick, you can add a splash of water or your preferred liquid (e.g., coconut water or almond milk) to achieve the desired consistency.
  5. Adjust the taste: Taste the smoothie and adjust the flavors if needed. You can add more apple for sweetness, more cilantro for freshness, or a pinch of salt to enhance the flavors.
  6. Serve and enjoy: Once the smoothie reaches your desired consistency and taste, pour it into a glass and enjoy immediately. If you prefer a colder smoothie, you can add more crushed ice or chill it in the refrigerator before serving.

Here are some variations of the apple, broccoli, and seaweed smoothie:

  1. Green Power Smoothie: Add a handful of fresh spinach or kale to boost the nutritional content and give the smoothie an extra dose of greens.
  2. Tropical Twist: Replace the apple with a ripe banana and add a cup of diced pineapple or mango for a tropical flavor.
  3. Berry Boost: Swap the apple for a cup of mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries) for a delicious berry-infused smoothie.
  4. Creamy Avocado: Include half an avocado to create a creamier texture and add healthy fats to the smoothie.
  5. Citrus Zest: Squeeze the juice of half an orange or a small lemon into the smoothie for a zesty kick.
  6. Protein Punch: Incorporate a scoop of your favorite protein powder or a tablespoon of almond butter for added protein and a more satisfying smoothie.
  7. Sweet and Spicy: Add a dash of ground cinnamon and a pinch of cayenne pepper for a sweet and spicy flavor combination.
  8. Coconut Delight: Use coconut water instead of regular water, and add a tablespoon of coconut flakes for a tropical twist.
  9. Nutty Blend: Include a handful of walnuts or almonds to enhance the nutty flavor and boost the smoothie’s nutrient profile.
  10. Minty Fresh: Add a few fresh mint leaves to the mix for a refreshing and aromatic twist.
  11. Ginger Zing: Add a small piece of fresh ginger for a spicy and invigorating flavor.
  12. Peanut Butter Bliss: Mix in a tablespoon of peanut butter or any nut butter of your choice for a nutty and rich taste.
  13. Chia Berry Burst: Include a tablespoon of chia seeds and swap the apple for mixed berries for a delightful chia pudding-like smoothie.
  14. Creamy Coconut Spin: Replace the broccoli with a handful of fresh spinach and use coconut milk instead of water for a creamy and tropical flavor.
  15. Golden Turmeric: Sprinkle a pinch of ground turmeric into the smoothie for its anti-inflammatory properties and a warm golden hue.
