FOR THE MEAT SAUCE:

  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup crushed tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

FOR THE BECHAMEL SAUCE:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • A pinch of nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

FOR LAYERING:

  • 4 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

FOR GARNISH:

  • Chopped fresh parsley

INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARING THE MEAT SAUCE:

  1. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the cooked beef. Sauté until the onion is translucent. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

CREATING THEE BECHAMEL SAUCE:

  1. In a separate saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour and whisk continuously to form a smooth paste, known as a roux.
  2. Gradually add the milk to the roux while whisking to prevent lumps. Continue to cook and whisk until the mixture thickens, resembling a smooth sauce.
  3. Add a pinch of nutmeg, salt, and pepper to the béchamel sauce, infusing it with delicate flavor.

LAYERING THE LASAGNA:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a small baking dish suitable for two servings.
  2. Spread a small amount of meat sauce on the bottom of the baking dish.
  3. Place two cooked lasagna noodles over the meat sauce, creating the first layer.
  4. Spread a portion of the meat sauce over the noodles, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese.
  5. Spoon a portion of béchamel sauce over the cheese layer, creating a creamy contrast.
  6. Create another layer by repeating the process: noodles, meat sauce, mozzarella cheese, and béchamel sauce.
  7. Place the remaining two cooked lasagna noodles on top. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce over the noodles and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese.

BAKING THE BEEF LASAGNA:

  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, until the lasagna is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

SERVING BEEF LASAGNA FOR TWO:

  1. Remove the baking dish from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
  2. Use a spatula to carefully portion out individual servings of the Beef Lasagna onto plates.
  3. Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the lasagna for a burst of color and freshness.
