There is nothing better than a juicy American burger on a sunny day. With this classic recipe you will end up having the best flavorful and juicy burger that everyone will absolutely love. Here we recommend you to use 80/20 ground beef chuck so your burger turns out juicy otherwise with leaner beef than this, you will get dry burgers. Try not to overmix the meat. Season the formed patties on each side and do not season the meat before making patties because it will get tougher in texture. The patties should not be too thick because it will take longer for then to cook and their exterior with dry out. Also do not overcook them because we want that juiciness. You can always customize your toppings and condiments according to your likings.

Preparation time: 15 minutes Cook time 6-8 minutes Total time: 21-23 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground chuck (80/20)
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 sharp cheddar cheese slices
  • 4 burger buns
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced onions
  • Green leaf lettuce
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard

Instructions:

  • Prepare your toppings (tomatoes, onions, lettuce, ketchup and mustard) and set aside.
  • Form 4 equal burger patties from ground beef. Make sure the patties are 1 inch larger than burger bun.
  • Do not season the meat before forming the patties and try not to overwork the meat.
  • To prevent puffing in the center make a small depression with your finger.
  • Preheat grill over medium heat and season the patties on each side with salt, pepper and onion powder. Cook the burgers according to your preference or desired doneness. For rare, it takes about 4 minutes total, medium-rare takes 5 minutes total, medium takes 6 minutes total, medium-well takes 7 minutes and well-done takes 9 minutes total. Remember to flip the burgers only once after a good sear. Do not press while cooking because you will squeeze out the juices.
  • During the last minute of cooking put a cheese slice on each burger patty and cover. The cheese will beautifully melt on it.
  • Now choose your favorite toppings and assemble your burgers and serve immediately. Voila!

Note: The burger patties can be made ahead a day before and stored in refrigerator. Do not season themuntil you are ready to grill them. The toppings can also be prepared in advance.
