I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Peanut Butter Cookies are timeless treats beloved by people of all ages. With their irresistible nutty flavor and chewy texture, these cookies have become a classic in the world of baking. The combination of creamy peanut butter and sweet chocolate chips creates a delectable balance of flavors, making these cookies a true delight for anyone with a love for the rich taste of peanut butter and the indulgence of chocolate.

The history of peanut butter cookies can be traced back to the late 19th century when peanut butter first gained popularity in the United States. At the time, peanut butter was considered a nutritious and affordable alternative to meat, and various peanut-based recipes emerged.

The first known published peanut butter cookie recipe appeared in a cookbook called “The Boston Cooking-School Cook Book” by Fannie Farmer in 1896. However, the cookies in that recipe were simple pressed cookies, not the traditional crisscross pattern we associate with peanut butter cookies today.

It was not until the early 20th century that the now-famous crisscross pattern was introduced. This iconic feature became popular due to its decorative appearance and functional purpose – pressing the cookie dough with a fork created a flatter surface, allowing for even baking.

Over time, peanut butter cookies gained widespread popularity, becoming a staple in American households and a favorite treat for school lunches and afternoon snacks. Their simplicity and delicious flavor made them a hit among children and adults alike.

Today, peanut butter cookies continue to be cherished and enjoyed worldwide. They have evolved with various adaptations, incorporating chocolate chips, nuts, or other add-ins to suit different tastes and preferences. Whether enjoyed with a glass of cold milk or served as a sweet dessert after dinner, peanut butter cookies remain a comforting and satisfying treat for all.
