PREP: 20 MIN. + CHILLING
BAKE: 20 MIN.
MAKES: ABOUT 3 DOZEN KRUMKAKES
INGREDIENTS
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup sweet butter, melted
- ½ cup heavy whipping cream, whipped
- ½ teaspoon nutmeg
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- Sweet butter for krumkake plates
INSTRUCTIONS
- In a bowl, beat the eggs until they become very light. Gradually add the sugar, beating until well blended.
- Slowly add the melted butter, then fold in the whipped cream and nutmeg. Mix in the all-purpose flour until a cookie dough-like consistency is achieved. Chill the dough thoroughly.
- Preheat the krumkake plates over medium heat for approximately 10 minutes or until a drop of water sizzles and “dances” when dropped onto the plates.
- Brush the plates with sweet butter to prevent sticking. Place approximately 1 slightly rounded tablespoon of dough in the center of the lower plate, then close the iron and press the handles together. If excess dough comes out the sides, remove it with a table knife.
- Bake the krumkake for about 30 seconds, then flip the iron and bake for another 30 seconds on the other side.
- Remove the krumkake from the iron and immediately roll it over a cone-shaped form. Place the rolled krumkake seam side down on parchment paper to cool. Once cooled, carefully remove the form.
- If desired, fill the cooled krumkake cones with sweetened whipped cream.
- Serve the Whipped Cream Krumkake immediately and enjoy their delicate and delightful flavors.
