Pork and Bok Choy / Celery Stir Fry

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Serves :1

INGREDIENTS:

  • 5 oz. Lean Pork Tenderloin, thinly sliced
  • Bok Choy and/or Celery, chopped (use as much as you want)
  • Fish Sauce, to taste

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Heat a pan or wok over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the sliced pork tenderloin to the pan and stir-fry until it’s cooked through and slightly browned. You can add a little oil to the pan if needed.
  3. Add the chopped bok choy and/or celery to the pan. Stir-fry for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Season the stir-fry with fish sauce to taste. Fish sauce adds a savory and umami flavor to the dish, so adjust the amount according to your preference.
  5. Serve the Pork Tenderloin and Bok Choy (or Celery) stir-fry hot over rice or noodles, if desired.

Here are some variations you can try for the Pork Tenderloin and Bok Choy / Celery stir fry:

    1. Garlic and Ginger Twist:
      • Add minced garlic and grated fresh ginger to the pan before stir-frying the pork and vegetables. The combination of garlic and ginger will add aromatic flavors to the dish.
    2. Soy Sauce and Sesame Oil:
      • Instead of using fish sauce, use soy sauce for a slightly different flavor profile. Drizzle a bit of sesame oil over the stir-fry just before serving to enhance the nutty taste.
    3. Asian-Inspired Sauce:
      • Create a simple sauce by combining soy sauce, oyster sauce, a splash of rice vinegar, a dash of honey or brown sugar, and a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat. Pour this sauce over the stir-fry and let it simmer until slightly thickened.
    4. Cashews or Peanuts:
      • Add some crunchy texture by tossing in a handful of cashews or peanuts during the last few minutes of stir-frying.
    5. Sesame Seeds:
      • Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the finished stir-fry to add a nutty flavor and extra crunch.
    6. Spicy Chili Sauce:
      • For a kick of spice, drizzle some chili sauce or sriracha over the stir-fry while serving.
    7. Mushroom Medley:
      • Include a mix of sliced mushrooms (such as shiitake, button, or cremini) along with the bok choy or celery for added earthy flavors.
    8. Citrus Zest:
      • Add some grated lemon or orange zest to brighten up the dish and bring a refreshing citrusy aroma.
    9. Coconut Milk:
      • Create a creamy and mildly sweet variation by adding a splash of coconut milk or coconut cream to the stir-fry.
    10.  Hoisin Sauce and Five-Spice Powder:
      • Create a savory and slightly sweet stir-fry by adding hoisin sauce and a pinch of five-spice powder to the dish.
    11. Pineapple and Bell Peppers:
      • Add chunks of fresh pineapple and colorful bell peppers for a tropical twist that balances the savory flavors.
    12. Thai Basil and Lime:
      • Garnish the stir-fry with fresh Thai basil leaves and squeeze some lime juice over it just before serving for a burst of herbal and citrusy notes.
    13. Sesame Ginger Glaze:
      • Make a glaze with sesame oil, honey, grated ginger, soy sauce, and a touch of cornstarch to thicken it. Drizzle this glaze over the cooked stir-fry.
    14. Shrimp or Chicken Substitute:
      • Swap the pork with shrimp or sliced chicken breasts for a seafood or poultry variation of the dish.
