Oreo Cake

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

The Oreo Cake is a delicious and indulgent dessert that combines the classic flavors of chocolate cake and Oreo cookies. Oreo cookies have been a beloved treat since their introduction in 1912 by the National Biscuit Company (Nabisco). The name “Oreo” is believed to have been derived from the French word “Or,” meaning gold, which represents the color of the original Oreo packaging.

Over the years, Oreo cookies have become an iconic and popular snack worldwide. Due to their delightful combination of chocolate cookies and creamy filling, they have also become a favorite ingredient in various dessert recipes, including the Oreo Cake.

The Oreo Cake offers a delightful contrast of textures, with a moist chocolate cake base, a creamy Oreo pudding layer, and a crunchy Oreo cookie topping. This cake is a crowd-pleaser and is perfect for any occasion, from birthday parties to family gatherings.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 Box Chocolate Cake Mix

  • 1 Large Box Oreo Instant Pudding
  • 3 Cups Milk
  • 8 Ounces Cool Whip

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roughly chop the Oreo cookies.
  2. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish. Prepare the chocolate cake according to the directions on the box.
  3. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 30-32 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  4. While the cake is cooling, whisk the milk and Oreo instant pudding together until smooth.
  5. Use a wooden spoon to poke holes in the top of the cake. Evenly pour the Oreo pudding over the top of the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  6. Sprinkle half of the chopped Oreo cookies over the pudding layer. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  7. Frost the cooled cake with Cool Whip, spreading it evenly over the top.
  8. Sprinkle the remaining chopped Oreo cookies on top of the Cool Whip frosting.
  9. Store the Oreo Cake in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

TIPS:

  • Add Crushed Oreo Cookies to the Cake Batter: For an extra burst of Oreo flavor and texture, consider adding crushed Oreo cookies directly into the cake batter before baking. Simply take a handful of Oreo cookies, place them in a sealed plastic bag, and crush them with a rolling pin or the back of a spoon. Then, fold the crushed Oreo cookies into the cake batter before pouring it into the baking dish. This simple addition will elevate the cake’s taste and make it even more irresistible for Oreo lovers.
  • Allow the Cake to Cool Completely Before Frosting: To ensure the frosting sets properly and the Oreo cake layers hold together, it’s essential to let the cake cool completely before adding the Cool Whip frosting. Rushing the process and frosting a warm cake can lead to the frosting melting and not holding its shape. Patience is key in this step, as it ensures that the final presentation of the Oreo Cake looks and tastes fantastic. You can even refrigerate the cake for a few hours after it cools to ensure it’s well-set before frosting and serving.
