INGREDIENTS 

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mustard
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • Sliced cheese (optional)
  • Pickles, lettuce, and tomato for serving (optional)

 

INSTRUCTIONS 

  1. Cook the ground beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  2. Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  3. Add the sauce to the beef: Pour the sauce over the cooked ground beef mixture in the skillet. Stir to coat the beef evenly with the sauce. Simmer for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Adjust the seasoning if needed.
  4. Toast the buns: Preheat the broiler in your oven. Split the hamburger buns and arrange them cut-side up on a baking sheet. Place the buns under the broiler for a few minutes until they become toasted and slightly golden.
  5. Assemble the sandwiches: Spoon a generous portion of the beef mixture onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. If desired, top the beef with sliced cheese. Add pickles, lettuce, and tomato for extra freshness and crunch. Place the top half of the bun over the filling.
