    • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
    • 1 cup milk
    • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
    • Salt and black pepper, to taste

 

INSTRUCTIONS

FOR THE CHEESE SAUCE:

  1. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for about 1 minute to create a roux.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook the mixture, stirring frequently, until it thickens and comes to a gentle simmer.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and add the shredded cheddar cheese to the sauce. Stir until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  6. Season the cheese sauce with salt and black pepper to taste. Keep warm over low heat.

 

FOR THE HORSESHOE SANDWICHES:

  1. Preheat your oven’s broiler.
  2. Toast the Texas toast or thick-sliced bread until golden brown.
  3. Place the grilled or cooked hamburger patties on each slice of toasted bread.
  4. Pour a generous amount of the cheese sauce over each hamburger patty, ensuring they are fully covered.

  6. Meanwhile, prepare the french fries according to the package instructions until they are golden and crispy.
  7. Once the Horseshoe Sandwiches are broiled, remove them from the oven.
  8. Pile a generous portion of french fries on top of each sandwich.
  9. Serve the Horseshoe Sandwiches immediately, allowing the cheese sauce to meld with the meat and the fries.
