About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Elegant Scalloped Potatoes is a classic and indulgent dish that elevates the humble potato into a rich and creamy casserole. This comfort food is loved by many for its velvety texture, cheesy goodness, and savory flavors. The dish is often served as a delightful side during holidays, family gatherings, or any time you crave a comforting meal. The layers of tender potatoes, creamy cheese sauce, and crispy bacon create a mouthwatering combination that is sure to please your taste buds.

Scalloped potatoes have a long history and are deeply rooted in European culinary traditions. The term “scalloped” originally referred to a cooking technique in which a dish was baked in a scallop-shaped shell, like a scallop shell used for serving seafood. This cooking method eventually evolved to refer to any dish that is baked with a sauce.

The use of potatoes in scalloped dishes became popular in Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly in countries like France and England. Potatoes were readily available, easy to grow, and provided a filling and inexpensive addition to meals. As immigrants brought their recipes to the United States, scalloped potatoes became a staple in American cooking.

Over time, variations of scalloped potatoes emerged, including the addition of cheese, which further enhanced the dish’s appeal. The addition of processed cheese (such as Velveeta) became popular in mid-20th-century American cooking, adding a creamy and smooth texture to the sauce.
