INGREDIENTS

  • 1 package German chocolate cake mix, regular size
  • 1 package (3.4 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 can (12 ounces) Dr Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FROSTING
  • 1 container (12 ounces) whipped cream cheese, room temperature
  • ⅓ cup butter, softened
  • ⅓ cup baking cocoa
  • 3½ cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line the bottoms of three greased 9-inch round baking pans with parchment paper, then grease the paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the German chocolate cake mix and instant chocolate pudding mix. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in the Dr Pepper and vanilla extract.
  3. Transfer the batter to the prepared pans. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top of the cakes spring back when lightly touched. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before removing them to wire racks. Remove the parchment paper and let the cakes cool completely.
  4. For the frosting, in a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and softened butter until smooth. Beat in the cocoa. Add the confectioners’ sugar and vanilla extract, and beat until creamy.
  5. Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread ½ cup of frosting on top. Repeat the layers. Finally, place the remaining cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake with the remaining frosting.
  6. Dr Pepper Cake is now ready to be enjoyed! Serve this unique and flavorful cake as a delicious treat for any celebration or as a delightful surprise for Dr Pepper and chocolate lovers.
