- 3 tablespoons heavy whipping cream
- ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
- 1 to 1¼ cups all-purpose flour
- Oil for deep-fat frying
- Confectioners’ sugar
INSTRUCTIONS
- Use a large bowl to beat the egg yolks and sugar together until they become light and have a lemon-colored appearance.
- Pour the heavy whipping cream into the bowl with the egg yolk and sugar mixture. Add the ground cardamom and mix thoroughly until well combined.
- Gradually incorporate the all-purpose flour into the mixture, mixing well after each addition. Continue adding flour until the dough reaches a firm consistency that is suitable for rolling.
- Sprinkle a lightly floured surface with flour and roll out the dough into a 15-inch square shape.
- Using a pastry wheel or a knife, cut the rolled-out dough into strips that are 15 inches long and 1½ inches wide. Then, make diagonal cuts at 2½-inch intervals along the strips.
- In the center of each diamond-shaped piece of dough, create a 1-inch slit. Pull one end of the dough through the slit to create a bow-like shape.
- Preheat the oil in an electric skillet or deep-fat fryer to a temperature of 375°F (190°C).
- Carefully place a few bows at a time into the hot oil and fry them for approximately 20 to 40 seconds or until they turn a golden brown color on both sides.
- Remove the fried bows from the oil using a slotted spoon or tongs and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels. The paper towels will absorb any excess oil.
- Sprinkle the Crispy Norwegian Bows generously with confectioners’ sugar while they are still warm. This will add a touch of sweetness and enhance their presentation.
