About

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Crisco Drops are a delightful confection that celebrates the combination of golden syrup, Crisco, and a touch of vanilla extract. These drops embody the art of creating simple yet flavorful treats that bring joy to the palate. Crisco Drops offer a moment of sweetness and satisfaction, capturing the essence of indulgence in every bite.

The history of candy-making is a tale of experimentation, innovation, and the desire to create treats that delight the senses. As ingredients and techniques evolved, so did the varieties of confections. Crisco Drops emerged as a result of culinary creativity, blending the smoothness of Crisco with the sweetness of golden syrup.

Golden syrup, a type of sugar syrup, has been used in cooking and baking for centuries. Its distinct flavor and sweetness make it a versatile ingredient in a variety of recipes. The addition of Crisco, a vegetable shortening, contributes to the texture and mouthfeel of the drops.

Crisco Drops exemplify the joy of crafting candies that are accessible to home cooks and candy enthusiasts alike. The story of these drops is one of simplicity and ingenuity, capturing the essence of creating sweet moments through the magic of confectionery.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/2 cupful golden syrup
  • 4 tablespoonfuls Crisco (or any vegetable shortening)
  • 1/4 cupful water
  • 1/4 teaspoonful salt
  • 1/2 teaspoonful vanilla extract

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a saucepan, combine the Crisco, golden syrup, water, and salt.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir continuously to ensure that the ingredients are well combined.
  3. Use a candy thermometer to monitor the temperature of the mixture. Continue boiling until the mixture reaches a stage where it is almost brittle when tested in cold water. This stage is around 290°F (143°C).
  4. Once the mixture has reached the desired temperature and consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  5. Add the vanilla extract to the mixture, infusing it with a delicate and aromatic flavor.
  6. Allow the mixture to cool down slightly. The goal is for the mixture to be firm enough to drop onto a tin but not completely solid.
  7. Prepare a tin or pan by greasing it with Crisco. This will prevent the drops from sticking to the surface.
  8. Using a spoon, carefully drop portions of the mixture onto the Criscoed tin. The drops will set as they cool.
  9. Allow the Crisco Drops to cool completely and harden. The drops will take on a shiny appearance and have a satisfying texture.

CONCLUSION:

Crisco Drops capture the essence of simplicity and sweetness in the world of confections. These drops showcase the combination of golden syrup and Crisco, creating a treat that is both delightful and nostalgic. The process of crafting Crisco Drops reflects the art of candy-making, where ingredients are transformed into moments of joy and indulgence. With their glossy appearance and balanced sweetness, Crisco Drops offer a reminder of the pleasures that can be found in creating and savoring simple yet delightful candies.
