Cheesecake with Oreo is a decadent and irresistible dessert that combines the classic creaminess of cheesecake with the delightful crunch and chocolatey goodness of Oreo cookies. This mouthwatering treat has gained popularity for its rich flavors and delightful textures.
The history of cheesecake dates back to ancient Greece, where it was served to athletes during the first Olympic games in 776 BC. Over time, the recipe for cheesecake spread to other cultures, including the Romans, who adapted it to include eggs, cheese, and honey. In the United States, cheesecake became popular in the early 20th century, and its variations continued to evolve, leading to the creation of Cheesecake with Oreo.
The idea of adding Oreo cookies to cheesecake likely originated from the love for the iconic chocolate cookie. Oreo cookies were first introduced by the National Biscuit Company (now known as Nabisco) in 1912, and they quickly became a beloved treat around the world. Combining the flavors of creamy cheesecake with the chocolatey crunch of Oreo cookies created a delightful and visually appealing dessert that appeals to both cheesecake and Oreo enthusiasts.
INGREDIENTS
Crust:
- 24 Oreos (finely crushed)
- 1 cup melted butter
Filling:
- 24 ounces cream cheese (softened)
- 3 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 cup pure pumpkin puree
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cloves
- 1 teaspoon nutmeg
Topping:
- 11 cups heavy cream
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate (chopped)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (for garnish)
INSTRUCTIONS
- Grease the inside of an 8 or 9-inch springform pan with nonstick cooking spray and line the bottom of the pan with parchment paper.
- Wrap the outside of the pan with two layers of aluminum foil, ensuring it covers the sides of the pan tightly and securely.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Mix together the crushed Oreo crumbs and melted butter until well combined. Press the mixture into the bottom of the springform pan to create an even crust, then set it aside.
- Using an electric mixer, beat the softened cream cheese and sugar on medium speed until smooth.
- Decrease the mixer’s speed to low, and add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition.
- Mix in the sour cream, vanilla extract, and lemon juice until well incorporated.
- Spread 1 cup of the cheesecake filling onto the Oreo crust and smooth it with a spatula. Place the pan in the freezer for 10-15 minutes.
- To the rest of the cheesecake filling, add the pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Mix until well incorporated.
- Spread the pumpkin cheesecake filling evenly over the plain cheesecake layer.
- Place the springform pan in a roasting pan, and fill the roasting pan about a quarter of the way with hot water. Bake the cheesecake at 350 degrees for 55-65 minutes, rotating the pan once halfway through baking.
- Remove the springform pan from the water bath and set it on a cooling rack to cool. Then, remove the aluminum foil and refrigerate the cheesecake overnight.
- Once the cheesecake is completely cooled, run a thin knife around the edge and remove the ring of the springform pan.
- In a separate bowl, beat 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream and powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. Spread 1 1/2 cups of the whipped cream on top of the pumpkin cheesecake, and save the rest for garnish. Place the cake in the freezer for 20 minutes.
- In a double boiler, melt the chopped semi-sweet chocolate until smooth and without lumps. Stir in 1 cup of heavy cream (from the fridge). If the ganache is warm, set it aside to cool.
- Once the ganache has cooled completely, spread about half of it onto the cake to cover the whipped cream layer. Place the cake in the freezer for 5-10 minutes.
- Reheat the remaining ganache and pour it over the cake, letting it drip over the edges. Let the ganache cool completely to set.
- Garnish the cake with the reserved whipped cream and chocolate chips.
- Store the Cheesecake with Oreo in the fridge.
Enjoy this luscious and indulgent Cheesecake with Oreo as a delightful treat for any special occasion or simply to satisfy your sweet cravings! The combination of creamy cheesecake, crunchy Oreo crust, and chocolatey ganache is sure to impress and leave everyone wanting more.
