Cheesecake Brownies

About

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Cheesecake brownies are a delightful combination of two beloved desserts – rich and fudgy brownies and creamy cheesecake. This delectable treat brings together the best of both worlds, offering a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that appeal to dessert lovers everywhere.

The exact origin of cheesecake brownies is not well-documented, but the concept of combining cheesecake with other desserts has been popular for centuries. Cheesecakes, in general, have a long and diverse history that can be traced back to ancient civilizations, including Greece and Rome. These early versions of cheesecakes were quite different from the modern-day cheesecakes we know today, but they laid the foundation for the evolution of this beloved dessert.

The cheesecake as we know it today, with a cream cheese-based filling on a graham cracker crust, became popular in the United States during the 20th century. The widespread availability of cream cheese and the invention of the graham cracker crust contributed to the dessert’s popularity and adaptation into various forms.

The combination of cheesecake with brownies is a more recent twist, likely emerging in the latter half of the 20th century or early 21st century. The rich and fudgy nature of brownies complement the creamy and tangy cheesecake filling, creating a satisfying and indulgent dessert that has become a favorite at parties, potlucks, and family gatherings.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 boxed brownie mix or homemade brownie recipe
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 16-ounce container chocolate frosting

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare the brownie mix according to the directions on the package (or use your favorite homemade brownie recipe). Pour the brownie batter into the greased baking dish, spreading it evenly to cover the bottom.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, softened butter, and cornstarch until fluffy and well combined.
  4. Gradually beat in the sweetened condensed milk, egg, and vanilla extract into the cream cheese mixture until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  5. Pour the cream cheese mixture over the brownie batter in the baking dish. Use a spatula to spread it evenly, creating a two-layered dessert.
  6. Bake the cheesecake brownies in the preheated oven for approximately 45 minutes, or until the brownie layer is fully cooked and the cheesecake layer is set.
  7. Allow the cheesecake brownies to cool completely before proceeding to the next step.
  8. Once cooled, spread the chocolate frosting over the top of the cheesecake brownies, covering the entire surface with a smooth layer of frosting.
  9. Store the cheesecake brownies covered in the refrigerator to preserve their freshness and creamy texture.
