Cheese Ramekins

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Cheese ramekins are a culinary masterpiece that blend the rich, creamy essence of cheese with a touch of elegance. These individual-sized delights are perfect as appetizers, starters, or even luxurious snacks. With their velvety texture and luxurious flavors, cheese ramekins offer a delightful way to savor the essence of cheese in a refined and sophisticated manner.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 cups grated cheese (combination of your favorite cheeses such as cheddar, gruyere, and Parmesan)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • Chopped fresh herbs (such as chives, parsley, or thyme) for garnish
  • Butter or cooking spray, for greasing ramekins

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the Oven:
    • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and position a rack in the center.
  2. Prepare Ramekins:
    • Grease the interior of individual ramekins with butter or cooking spray. This will help prevent the cheese from sticking.
  3. Create the Cheese Mixture:
    • In a mixing bowl, combine the grated cheese, heavy cream, and minced garlic. Mix them together until the cheese is evenly coated and the cream is incorporated.
  4. Season and Enhance:
    • Add Dijon mustard to the cheese mixture for a touch of tang and depth of flavor.
    • Season the mixture with a pinch of salt and a generous amount of freshly ground black pepper. The amount of salt may vary depending on the saltiness of the cheeses you’re using, so taste and adjust as needed.
  5. Incorporate Eggs:
    • Crack the eggs into a separate bowl, beat them lightly, and then fold them into the cheese mixture. Be gentle to avoid overmixing.
  6. Fill the Ramekins:
    • Divide the cheese mixture evenly among the prepared ramekins, filling them about three-quarters full.
  7. Baking:
    • Place the filled ramekins on a baking sheet to catch any potential spills.
    • Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese ramekins are set and have a slightly golden top.
  8. Garnish and Serve:
    • Once the cheese ramekins are done, remove them from the oven and let them cool slightly.
    • Sprinkle chopped fresh herbs over the top for an appealing pop of color and a burst of freshness.
  9. Enjoy:
    • Serve the cheese ramekins warm, either directly in the ramekins or gently unmolded onto individual plates.
    • These delectable treats can be enjoyed with crusty bread, crackers, or even on their own as a luxurious indulgence.

Savor the sublime pleasure of Cheese Ramekins, a dish that beautifully marries the creamy allure of cheese with the sophistication of individual servings. Whether as a lavish appetizer at a gathering or a treat for a special evening, these ramekins offer an exquisite experience of culinary delight.

TIPS:

  • Cheese Varieties and Combinations: Experiment with a variety of cheese combinations to create a complex and balanced flavor profile in your ramekins. Mix cheeses with different textures and flavor intensities, such as sharp cheddar, nutty gruyere, and savory Parmesan. Combining cheeses with varying characteristics adds depth to the dish.
  • Water Bath Technique: To ensure even cooking and prevent the cheese ramekins from curdling or cracking, consider using a water bath during baking. Place the filled ramekins in a larger baking dish and add hot water to the larger dish until it reaches about halfway up the sides of the ramekins. This gentle and indirect heat helps create a smooth and custardy texture in the ramekins.
