About

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Arroz con Leche, which translates to “rice with milk,” is a comforting and creamy rice pudding dessert that has its origins in Spanish cuisine. This traditional dessert is enjoyed in many countries across Latin America and Spain, with each region adding its own unique twist to the recipe. Arroz con Leche has a rich history and is often prepared for special occasions or as a sweet treat for the family. Let’s explore the story and origins of this beloved dessert.

Arroz con Leche has a long history that can be traced back to ancient times. Rice pudding itself is believed to have originated in the Middle East and was later introduced to Spain during the Moorish occupation. From Spain, it spread to Latin America and other parts of the world through colonization and trade routes.

The recipe varies across different countries and regions. However, the basic ingredients remain the same: rice, milk, sugar, and often spices such as cinnamon. These simple ingredients come together to create a comforting and creamy dessert that is loved by many.

To make this rice pudding, water, rice, and a cinnamon stick are simmered until the rice absorbs the water and becomes tender. The cinnamon adds a warm and aromatic flavor to the dish. Then, sweetened condensed milk and raisins are added to the rice mixture, creating a rich and creamy texture. The dessert is simmered again until it reaches a thick and creamy consistency, with the flavors melding together.

Arroz con Leche can be enjoyed warm or cold, depending on personal preference. Some people prefer to serve it warm, straight from the stovetop, while others prefer to chill it in the refrigerator for a refreshing treat. It is often garnished with a sprinkle of ground cinnamon or a dusting of cocoa powder.

This dish holds a special place in the hearts of many families and is often passed down through generations. It is a dessert that brings comfort and nostalgia, evoking memories of family gatherings and special occasions. In many cultures, Arroz con Leche is prepared during holidays and celebrations, symbolizing love, togetherness, and the sweetness of life.
