I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

American chop suey is a mix of Oriental and Western cuisines. There are a lot of recipes available for American chop suey some of which uses fried noodles as the base of sautéed vegetables mixed with ground beef and tangy sauce. While others make it using pasta, ground beef made in a delicious sauce. This recipe is a version of later. This American chop suey is very delicious and absolutely easy recipe for dinner. It can easily be made in one pot with perfect blending of flavors. You will absolutely love this comfort food. It is most commonly known as Goulash outside of New England. For this chop suey onion and garlic are sautéed and ground beef is cooked until browned. Excess grease is drained. Add in variety of vegetable and stir fry. Then comes sauces and condiments that are listed in the recipe below with complete details. Lastly, comes the pasta and after combining you get an absolutely amazing American chop suey that your family will love. Enjoy this amazing mix of beef, macaroni, your favorite veggies and spices with your family.

Preparation time: 10 minutes Cook time: 30 minutes Total time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounce elbow macaroni
  • 1 ½ tablespoon butterr
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce
  • ½ teaspoon schezwan sauce
  • ½ teaspoon schezwan sauce
  • 3 tablespoon chopped green onions
  • 1 diced tomato
  • ½ chopped capsicum
  • ½ onion-petals
  • Salt & pepper-to taste
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

Instructions:

  • Take a large pot and bring water to boil over high heat. Add pasta and salt and cook according to instructions. Now drain the pasta in colander.
  • To make this a one pot recipe you can use the same pot and add oil in it. Heat 3 teaspoons oil. Or you could use a non-stick skillet.
  • Sautee garlic and onion in the pot for couple minutes. Stir in ground beef and cook until browned. Stir and break up meat chunks while cooking.
  • Stir fry rest of the vegetables until tender with slight crunch.
  • Add tomato sauce, schezwan sauce, soy sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper and sugar. Continue stirring until sauce thickens.t
  • Add water. Cook for few seconds.
  • Add cooked pasta to the chop suey and stir. Let cook until pasta is heated through.
  • American chop suey is ready. Serve immediately.

 

Note: Store leftovers in airtight container and refrigerate for up to three days. You can also freeze for upto 3 months.
