Kiwi Granita

About

Brenda Gantt

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

The tropical kiwi packs more punch per bite than most fruits, and thus makes
an amazing granita. Consider serving with a drizzle of orange juice or Grand
Marnier for an after-dinner treat.

 YIELD: 1 QUART

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pounds kiwis, peeled and chopped
  • 1¼ cups water
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

PREPARATION

  1. Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender, and purée until very smooth.
  2. Refrigerate until chilled.
  3. Pour into a covered container and place in the freezer for 1 hour.
  4. Remove from freezer, and stir the frozen crystals into the center of the container with a fork.
  5. Return the container to the freezer, and repeat the process every 30–45 minutes, stirring carefully each time, until you have a fully frozen container of crystallized granita.
