Rice pudding is thought to have originated in Asia, where rice has been cultivated for thousands of years. As rice spread to different parts of the world, so did variations of rice pudding. In European cuisines, rice pudding gained popularity during the Middle Ages and Renaissance periods, often made with ingredients available locally, such as milk, sugar, and spices.

The dessert’s simplicity and versatility made it a common dish in households, from grand feasts to humble family meals. Over time, different cultures developed their own versions, incorporating regional ingredients and flavors. Today, rice pudding holds a special place in the culinary repertoire of many countries, loved for its creamy texture and comforting taste.
