About

I am a self-taught cook. I started cooking around 18 years old. I stood in the kitchen and watched my mother, who was my biggest inspiration at the time, cook.

Kit Kat Cupcakes are a delightful and unique twist on the classic cupcake, incorporating the beloved Kit Kat chocolate bar into both the cupcake batter and the creamy frosting. These indulgent cupcakes offer a combination of rich chocolate flavors and the iconic crunchy texture of Kit Kat, making them a perfect treat for chocolate lovers and anyone looking to enjoy a fun and flavorful dessert.

The history of cupcakes dates back to the 18th century when small cakes were baked in cups or molds. As baking techniques evolved, cupcakes became more popular and widespread. The concept of adding unique ingredients or toppings to cupcakes has allowed for endless variations and creativity in the world of baking.

Kit Kat, a popular chocolate wafer bar, has its roots in England and was first introduced in 1935 by Rowntree’s of York, now owned by Nestlé. The name “Kit Kat” was inspired by a popular 18th-century literary and political club in London, known as the “Kit-Cat Club.” Over the years, Kit Kat has become one of the most beloved chocolate bars globally, known for its distinctive crisp layers and smooth milk chocolate.

The combination of Kit Kat and cupcakes showcases the innovative and imaginative nature of baking enthusiasts, who are constantly exploring ways to elevate classic desserts with exciting twists. The crunchy, chocolatey goodness of Kit Kat enhances the cupcake experience, providing a delightful surprise in every bite.

INGREDIENTS

Cupcakes:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ⅓ cup unprocessed cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg, at room temperature
  • ½ cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • ½ cup hot coffee or hot water
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract

Frosting:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 3-4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 6-7 snack-size Kit Kats, chopped finely

INSTRUCTIONS

Cupcakes:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line muffin tins with cupcake liners.
  2. Sift together all the dry ingredients into a large bowl. In a medium bowl, combine all the wet ingredients, including the egg, using a whisk. Be sure to whisk the hot coffee or hot water into the wet ingredients to avoid scrambling the egg.
  3. Using a mixer, mix the dry ingredients on low speed for 1 minute. Stop the mixer and add the wet ingredients. Mix for 2 minutes on medium speed and scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl. Mix for an additional minute on medium speed.
  4. The batter will be thin. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners.
  5. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out almost clean.
  6. Cool the cupcakes completely on wire racks while you prepare the frosting.

Frosting:

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, whip the butter on medium speed for about 2-3 minutes until light and creamy.
  2. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, and heavy cream. Mix on low for 1 minute until combined. Increase the speed to medium-high and whip for 6 minutes. Add in the chopped Kit Kats and mix until combined.
  3. Use the frosting immediately to frost the cooled cupcakes.
