Servings: 1
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 1/2 lb Ground chuck or lean beef
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Tbs Garlic salt
- 1 Tbs Italian seasoning
- 3 cups Or more Italian bread crumbs
- 3/4 cup Or more Grated Romano cheese
INSTRUCTIONS:
- In a very large bowl, combine the ground chuck or lean beef, eggs, garlic salt, Italian seasoning, and Italian bread crumbs. The mixture will be very dry, which is good as the crumbs will absorb any fats in the sauce. Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Add the grated Romano cheese to the meat mixture and continue to mix until well incorporated.
- Form the meat mixture into meatballs of the desired size. You can make them larger than golf ball size or smaller, depending on your preference.
- In a sauté pan or skillet, brown the meatballs on all sides until they are just browned. This step adds flavor and texture to the meatballs.
- Once the meatballs are browned, transfer them to the sauce you are making. Allow the meatballs to simmer in the sauce, which will further cook and flavor them.
- This recipe will yield approximately 24 meatballs, depending on the size you make them.
Here are a few variations of the meatball recipe:
- Turkey Meatballs: Replace the ground beef with ground turkey for a leaner option. You can add additional seasonings such as chopped fresh herbs like parsley or basil to enhance the flavor.
- Cheesy Meatballs: Insert a small cube of mozzarella or cheddar cheese into the center of each meatball before cooking. This will create a delicious cheesy surprise when you bite into the meatballs.
- Spicy Meatballs: Add spices like cayenne pepper, crushed red pepper flakes, or diced jalapeños to the meat mixture for a kick of heat. Adjust the amount according to your desired level of spiciness.
- Mediterranean Meatballs: Incorporate ingredients like chopped Kalamata olives, crumbled feta cheese, minced garlic, and dried oregano into the meat mixture. These flavors will give the meatballs a Mediterranean twist.
- Asian-Inspired Meatballs: Mix in grated ginger, minced garlic, chopped green onions, and soy sauce to create an Asian-flavored meatball. You can also add a dash of sesame oil and sprinkle with sesame seeds for extra flavor.
- Herb and Parmesan Meatballs: Add a combination of fresh herbs like parsley, basil, and thyme to the meat mixture. Mix in grated Parmesan cheese for an added savory taste.
- Vegetarian Meatballs: Replace the meat with cooked lentils, mashed chickpeas, or a mixture of cooked grains like quinoa and breadcrumbs. Add finely chopped vegetables, herbs, and spices to the mixture for a tasty vegetarian option.
- Greek-style Meatballs: Mix in minced garlic, chopped fresh dill, crumbled feta cheese, and a squeeze of lemon juice to the meat mixture. Serve the meatballs with tzatziki sauce and a side of Greek salad for a flavorful Greek-inspired meal.
- Sweet and Sour Meatballs: Prepare a sauce with a combination of sweet and sour flavors using ingredients like pineapple juice, soy sauce, brown sugar, and vinegar. Cook the meatballs in the sauce until they are tender and coated in the flavorful glaze.
- Buffalo Chicken Meatballs: Replace the ground beef with ground chicken or turkey. Mix in buffalo sauce, minced celery, and blue cheese crumbles to give the meatballs a spicy and tangy Buffalo chicken flavor. Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing for dipping.
