Delightful Apple Pie is a classic American dessert that is beloved for its sweet and tangy apple filling, warm spices, and flaky crust. INGREDIENTS

  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie pastry
  • 6 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (about 5 medium)
  • ¼ cup apple butter
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1½ teaspoons sugar
  • 1½ teaspoons apple pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

 

FOR TOPPING:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • ¼ cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon apple pie spice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons cold butter
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Unroll the pastry sheet into a 9-inch pie plate and flute the edges to create a decorative crust. In a large bowl, toss the thinly sliced peeled tart apples with apple butter until well coated. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, sugar, apple pie spice, and ground cinnamon. Add the flour mixture to the apple mixture and toss until the apples are evenly coated. Transfer the apple mixture to the pie crust.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the flour, sugar, brown sugar, apple pie spice, and ground cinnamon for the topping. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Stir in the chopped walnuts and sprinkle the topping mixture evenly over the apple filling.
  3. Bake the pie at 375°F (190°C) for 45-50 minutes or until the filling is bubbly and the topping is nicely browned. If the edges of the crust begin to overbrown, you can cover them with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking. Once done, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
