INGREDIENTS

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup pitted green olives, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons capers
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Cooked white rice, for serving
  • Fresh cilantro or parsley, chopped (for garnish)

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon or spatula as it cooks.
  3. Once the beef is browned, add the diced onion, diced green bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté the mixture until the vegetables are softened and fragrant.
  4. Stir in the diced tomatoes (including the juice) and tomato sauce. Mix well to combine.
  5. Add the sliced green olives, capers, ground cumin, dried oregano, ground cinnamon, and ground cloves to the skillet. Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Stir everything together until well incorporated.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and let the Easy Cuban Picadillo simmer for approximately 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together and the sauce to thicken slightly.
  7. While the picadillo is simmering, prepare the white rice according to package instructions.
  8. Once the picadillo is cooked and the flavors have melded together, remove the skillet from heat.
  9. Serve the Easy Cuban Picadillo over a bed of cooked white rice.
  10. Garnish with freshly chopped cilantro or parsley for a vibrant touch of freshness.
